WHEELTOP Media Spotlight

As for performance or head-on comparison to a GX AXS derailleur, the EDS OX2.0 has nothing to be ashamed of... almost the opposite. First of all, the "racing" mode provides impressive responsiveness. Furthermore, the gears shift, no matter what. Where the AXS tends to "protect" the system, by limiting the number of changes per pulse (1, 2 or 3 depending on the configuration), the WHEELTOP shifter can sweep the entire cassette as long as the thumb maintains contact, even under full load, and the derailleur seems to follow the request without ever protesting.

WHEELTOP Velo Vert

“Via a button on the shifter, you can flip the system between two different modes; regular shifting mode, and a calibration mode that allows you to make super fine tune adjustments to get the derailleur set up perfectly.”

WHEELTOP Bike Rumor

“A flat-bar shifter is currently available. This uses a two-button layout and can be mounted either under or over the handlebar. The buttons have a very tactile and almost metallic feel, emitting a satisfying click when depressed.”

WHEELTOP BikeRadar

“Wireless design, huge battery life, versatile drivetrain compatibility, and keen pricing make Wheeltop’s EDS-OX YQ electronic MTB groupset a tempting option if you're looking for an unconventional, alternative, and affordable entry into electronic shifting.”

“What I have noticed a lot, and for me, it is a great point, is race mode. Race mode will consume more battery, but to me, it seemed brutal—the response that the change has is instantaneous, and I think that I will not use the normal mode again.”

“In this sense, the WHEELTOP is not designed to support a removable battery, but I can tell you that it lasts a very long time. The battery can support 20,000 rotations on a full charge, and the battery is durable enough that it basically does not need to be recharged for several months. I have told you, I promise you, there is no need to worry!”

“Now, one of the cool features of the EDS system is that it's programmable from three all the way up to 14-speed. And what that means is that, it's going to work for 12-speed drivetrains, but even if you have, like, an 11-speed drivetrain, 10-speed, 8-speed—it's going to work for all of those!”

“If you watch this channel, you'll know what a fan of the Microshift Advent I am. This is better than an Advent and over Roots at any speed, especially fast. Not only is there no chain slap, but it's never hopped or jumped a single gear. The only gear change, the only movement, happens when I initiate it through the shifter. And the shifting is different because it's so fast—it's a fast, concise electronic shift versus the analog shifter, where you can kind of feel it happening. I think this is better than an analog!”

“The electronic derailleur system actually performed really well it still has 75 percent of the battery left it did not give me one problem while I was out on the trail and it even seems to do fairly well in the water!”

“You can adjust the spacing because different brands may use different spacing, so I can use it with my other sram access cassette turn speeds, which is cool.”

Great Product but not excellent

Great Product but not excellent EDS, just a little confuse on how to set up the gear. Also, the screw that held the cover to the H/L adjustment, i could not screw it back in.

WHEELTOP EDS OX2.0

Initial quality is impressive.
LIKES: shift accuracy, shift response to paddle input, shifts great under load, weight, charging is fast (@ 1hr), app is very nice, I really like the race/casual shift speed modes - shift speed is very impressive
DISLIKES (reason for one star deduction): (1) The installed pulley wheels are not compatible with 10speed chain, I had to replace the pulley cogs with my existing mech derailleur. I think 11T cogs should be provided or at least this needs to be mentioned.
(2) The instruction manual needs some work, somewhat confusing especially the acceptable tuning position for each gear as this is not explicit/clear in the manual.
(3) I don't care for the design/ergonomics of the shifter somewhat awkward for hand thumb placement. Mounted inboard of the brake and it's hard to reach, mounted outboard of the brake and limited to angle to avoid interference with the brake lever. The buttons should be spaced just a tad apart, I think a horizontal design/configuration would be best as it wouldn't hang down as much below the bar and have clamp hole mounting options to position the shifters to rider preference. Archer had a horizontal design with shift buttons spaced apart and I really liked it.

Overall, performance is awesome and I would recommend based on initial experience. Hoping Wheeltop redesigns the shifter paddle to a horizontal design or at least has this as an option in the future.

Nice functionality, works with 11 speed linkglide!

I just got this a few days ago and have two days of riding on it so far.

You set up was a mixed bag. There are no clear instructions on how to set it up. I did finally figure out after watching some YouTube videos that you have to save your micro adjustments by hitting the sure button and then shifting out of the gear and back in. Also another flaw I found was if you accidentally micro adjust in any other gear then the first smallest gear the derailleur bugs out and is stuck thinking the higher gear is first gear and won't shift through its entire range. The fix for this is micro adjusting all the way back down to the smallest gear and starting the process over again.

That being said the ability to micro adjust each gear individually is pretty amazing. The 11 speed spacing was not correct for my 11 speed Shimano link glide cassette but I was able to find the smallest gear and the largest gear and then determine the spacing between each gear based on those two. That got me to an almost flawless setup, with just a little fine tuning in the largest two gears.

One set up it's been flawless with really good battery life surprisingly. Over two pretty long rides, a combined 30 miles and over 8,000 ft and a lot of shifting up and down I used around 10%. For my usage which is above average I would expect I'll get two to three weeks between charges.

The charging is another con, with a non-removable battery you have to use their proprietary magnetic charger. It works well enough but I have to use a USB battery bank to charge it since the bike is stored in my garage and there's not an outlet close by to use. I think the cover for the magnetic charger also could be a bit better designed. I worry over time if it will not stay in place during a ride.

I do really like the tactile click of the shifter, and after the first ride it was very intuitive the way it came set up from the factory. I did see you can swap the button function if you want to be reversed but I'm going to leave it as it is.

For the $360 I paid I think this is pretty solid. There are not any other wireless shifting systems that support 11 speed or the other myriad of speeds this system supports. The fact that you could run this on a downhill bike, a trail bike, or really anything and customize the spacing between the gears is impressive. Time will tell to see how long it continues to work as it does when it's new.
